7 Tips to Help Your Sales Team Reach Its Goals
September 12, 2017
Sales professionals with effective processes, who make good use of their time, have the right sales tools, are motivated and committed, and share a sense of unity can form an unbeatable sales team when it comes to delivering results.
Here are 7 tips that will help your sales team achieve (even more) results more efficiently.
1. Leave administrative and repetitive tasks to the software
Free your sales team from tasks that software can easily handle automatically—such as sending follow-upemails , entering lead data , scheduling meetings, and organizing contact information. If we’re talking about performing repetitive tasks for 10 contacts, it’s a waste of time for the sales team. That time should be better spent with leads, working on sales, and closing deals.
2. Invest in tools that boost sales
A platform that automates sales tasks and frees up salespeople’s time so they can focus on the sales side of the business also improves workflows and communication between teams. These are tools that help advance sales efforts and make them easier (sales enablement).
For example, you’d certainly like to know when a potential customer is reading the sales proposal you sent. You’d want to be able to track leads automatically and send personalized, pre-written emails so you don’t have to spend time sending them one by one. You can access leads’ digital behavior—the content they’ve read and the products or services they’ve viewed—to understand their interests. And the software alerts you to the right moment to reach out to leads who have become qualified based on their actions on the website.
These are just some of the possibilities offered by tools that boost sales—such as HubSpot’s CRM—which have a real impact on how each sales professional works, making sales efforts more efficient and driving better results.
3. Invest in quality content.
Having the right content to present at the right time—to clarify for the lead what they need to know about our product or service—makes a tremendous difference when it comes to closing sales. Informing, educating, and clarifying our offer for leads is crucial to being helpful and relevant when presenting a solution to a problem. Having good content that helps communicate our message to leads is half the battle won when it comes to successful selling.
4. Better leads.
Better leads are more important than more leads. If the Marketing team is passing on many leads to the Sales team that aren’t ready to buy, it’s a complete waste of time—not to mention the annoyance it causes to people who were thought to be interested in buying. Therefore, having a clear definition of a qualified lead and ensuringthe Marketing and Sales teams are well-aligned (SMarketing) is a crucial step toward making the Sales teams more productive and enabling them to deliver better results.
5. Evaluate metrics.
To understand whether what you’re doing is working and how you can improve, you need metrics to evaluate results. The way you’re selling must be analyzed to interpret processes and draw conclusions that lead to greater efficiency and productivity. Have metrics to measure, for example, the effectiveness of the sales funnel, conversions, and the number of clicks leading to a conversion. Gather data so you can analyze the information and identify opportunities for improvement.
6. Train and monitor.
For strong sales performance, it’s important that teams receive high-quality training, stay up to date, and are monitored to ensure they’re putting what they’ve learned into practice. Training loses its effectiveness if the knowledge isn’t applied in day-to-day work.
7. Inspire and motivate.
Getting to know people well is the best way to motivate them. Showing each team member that they are valued and useful, and that their success and professional well-being are important and matter, is what turns a group of workers into a team. The human factor matters. Therefore, it is crucial to inspire and motivate in order to have a team that feels valued, focused, and committed to delivering strong results.
